Jen Gessert's Full Story

Adults and Teens 13+

Since 2008, I have had the great honor of helping my clients break through the obstacles that hold them back in life. I have helped people shift their priorities, identify their deepest desires, develop wellness and interpersonal skills, heal from trauma and eradicate negative habits of thought and behavior. We bog ourselves down in negative messaging that we "can't" achieve our goals or "don't deserve" to be truly fulfilled in life.  Life is too short to be unhappy, unsure, or unfulfilled. Let me help you learn and develop better ways to handle the issues that are standing in the way of your fullest life.

Originally from Portland, OR and after earning a BA in Art Studio, I came to Alaska over 20 years ago as a backcountry guide and artist. Through observing many people's transformations in wilderness settings, I found that I had a passion for guiding people through their experiences in becoming more genuine and authentic people. I went back to school and graduated from Alaska Pacific University in 2009 with my Masters in Counseling Psychology. Since then, I have worked extensively in the fields of substance abuse counseling and supporting under-served populations such as the inmate population, the Native community, and the LGBTQ community.  I am now the owner of White Wave Counseling, where I have found my life's passion in guiding my clients through their healing while also curating a team of therapists who resonate with this passion in their unique ways that compliment my philosophies.

I have pursued special training in the areas of depression, anxiety, sleep improvement, pharmacology, medication-assisted therapy for substance abuse, mental illness for chronically ill, interventions for challenging teens, perinatal wellness, communication skills, trauma recovery, gender expansive stressors, transgender treatment standards, digital addiction, and parenting strategies. I also have a passion for introducing mindfulness-based interventions whenever helpful for my clients. I draw from a wide range of therapeutic modalities, including Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivation Interviewing, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Mindfulness Interventions, and many more.

I enjoy working in colorful Anchorage, Alaska, one of the most diverse cities in the nation. I strive to help people evolve through their challenges on any level whether emotional, behavioral, or professional and support adults and teens age 13+, of any gender, race, identity, or sexual orientation.

It would be my honor to consult with you over the phone for a 15 minute discussion to see if I am a good match for you in your search for the right therapist. You may also send me an email with any questions you have.
