Barb Kolb's Full Story

Adult and Youth Specialist seeing Adults, Teens and Age 6+

I’ve always been captivated by people. From a very young age, I tended to gravitate toward the “new comers” and was always fascinated by people’s triumphs, trials, tribulations and their ability to overcome adversity. I have a passion for witnessing my clients'stories and seeing the transformation and restoration of Self occur before my eyes. It is
inevitable that we won’t escape this world without some form of hardship, heartbreak or trauma. The earlier you can address issues in life, the more likely you can spare yourself a lifetime of grief and suffering.

I have made it my mission to learn the necessary skills to assist my clients in connecting to and trusting their authentic selves.  I work with adults and children who suffer from issues such as trauma, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, inter-personal issues, and anger. I have special training in the areas of substance abuse, dissociative disorders, emotional regulation, anxiety, and trauma processing.

I specifically assist children develop the essential life skills in emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and assertive communication. I have found that incorporating play in the therapy sessions with my youngest clients is an effective and clinically proven tool to help children transcend the verbal processing barriers that encumber most healing modalities. When working with your child, together we can help them increase self- confidence, assist them in negotiating challenges, gain trust in themselves and most importantly allow them to remain a curious child.

Originally from Pocatello, Idaho I graduated with a BA in Psychology and ventured off to join the US Army and create adventures of my own. It was during this time, that I discovered the power that comes from overcoming physical and mental challenges, which assists me in my work. Humans are more capable then they realize and when you dig deep,
you are able to find the inner strength to keep going when you believed you had nothing left in your reserves. That is truly awe-inspiring!

I received my Master of Science from Walden University in 2009. Since then, I have worked extensively in the field of mental health, both inpatient and outpatient treatment programs and substance abuse treatment facilities. I have pursued special training in the areas of depression, anxiety, trauma processing/recovery, substance abuse, mental illness for the chronically ill, dissociative disorders, interventions for parents dealing with childhood & adolescent problematic behaviors, assertive communication skills, anger management, mindfulness practices, and emotional regulation and distress tolerance skills. I have worked extensively in supporting the mental health of the Alaska Native community, one of my continued passions.

I have an eclectic style and draw from a wide range of therapeutic modalities, including Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivation Interviewing, Mindfulness Interventions, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Polyvagal, Sand Tray therapy and Synergetic Play Therapy. I provide therapy to children 6 and older, teens, adults and couples regardless of race or sexual orientation.

It would be my pleasure to consult with you over the phone for a 15-minute discussion to see if I am a good match for you in your search for the right therapist. You may also send me an email with any questions you have. I look forward to witnessing your story and helping you reconnect to your authentic self!
